In this guide, I show you how to choose who to pitch, how to find the right contact information, and how to craft a winning pitch.
I am a food + product photographer & educator specializing in eco-friendly and sustainable brands. When I am not working with clients, I empower creatives to start their journey by sharing my knowledge on the business of food + product photography.
I love to shoot food photography at local restaurants, and when Kim from Kim’s Pho Kitchen + Bar contacted me to get some some photos for their new website, I was thrilled. Not only is their food delicious, it is beautifully plated and the location is gorgeous. I was also lucky enough to be able to enroll the precious help of Mimi, Kim’s daughter, who was the perfect model for this shoot!
The shoot went really smoothly and the big window at the front of the restaurant allowed some beautiful light to come in and create a great natural lighting on the food. The restaurant is always super busy, so I had quite an audience, which makes the experience even more fun… With the popularity of smart phones, food photography has become somewhat of a “thing”, but professional food photographers usually take it a step further with reflectors, scrims, stands, and let’s not forget, standing up on the chairs (and sometimes tables) to get the perfect shot… Funny story, the other name I was considering for my business was “Barefoot photography”, because kicking off my shoes is usually the first thing I do when I start a shoot…
